The owners of this property in Santa Rosa do a lot of entertaining, and desired easy access to the large entertainment garden terrace, especially from the upper level of the home. Leff Landscape Associates, Inc. added a new stream and pond adjacent to the stairs to make the journey to the entertainment areas more scenic and interesting. In the area beyond the terraces, existing native vegetation was cultivated to encourage growth right up to the recent construction, blurring the distinction between new and old. A lower level was added for the swimming pool to separate it from the main entertaining and kitchen terraces. The landscape Architect enhanced the views from the entertainment Garden all the way to Marin and Napa.
This water feature is enjoyed from numerous spots on the property and each has a unique perspective. While walking down the steps it is seen from the side, on the dining terrace it is seen from below, and from the house it is enjoyed from above.
Wide steps provide easy access to the pool terrace. The paving is stained concrete. It gives an aged look to new concrete giving the impression that it has been there for a long time.
The journey from the upper deck to the lower terrace is long. Plantings, a change in direction, and diverse views add interest to the walk.
The corbels on this trellis were salvaged from a home in Bali. They add curiosity and a touch of elegance to this otherwise standard structure.
This view of the stairs and water feature show the step lights that are built into the rises of the steps for safety.
