historical garden designs
Leff Landscape Associates, Inc. upgrades old landscapes to original historic design, making them appear traditional in a modern way. This unassuming front entry leads to a beautifully restored house and over ten acres of rolling gardens. The house and grounds received complete renovations to make them look as if they had always been just the way they now appear. Although the property has been restored to re-create its original character, it has also been updated to suit current uses. The project won an Award of Excellence from the Sonoma League for Historic Preservation. Napa and Marin counties have many properties that can benefit from upgrades of their old landscapes.
Simple stone columns announce the entrance walk from a parking area to the front door. Traditional plantings, such as the boxwood hedge, Camellias, and a small lawn were preserved to enhance the historic ambiance.
The back of the house faces a large green space and this small eating terrace affords expansive views to the gardens beyond. The entire back garden was graded for proper drainage away from the house. Rock walls not only provide for a bigger terrace, but they do double duty by providing extra seating and they hide the drainage pipes behind the walls.
Out buildings on the property were upgraded as guest housing. This one fronts onto a swimming pool. The railings were designed to match the shutters on the structure and they are repeated throughout the pool terrace.
